“It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.”
– Ernest Hemingway
Hello everyone, update August 2016
Registration will always be posted here. Events:
the last ride for 2016 for 11/12/2016 is scheduled. TXDOT has again announced the Rio Hondo Bridge will be under construction sometime in the near future. It will be at least a 11 month project. In essence, that means I will not schedule Randos that use the bridge…until it is complete…such as the approved routes starting in Port Isabel. I have plenty of new routes approved for Harlingen and Edinburg. If I have time, I will plan some new routes to start and end from the Brownsville Sports Park…any help and ideas appreciated.
Registration is now online for November.
I have submitted routes/rides for 2017 that will be ACP certified. They are pending approval. At that point the dates and routes are locked in and I just received approval for a new 301K route for Harlingen.
At this time I have four dates for 2017 events. See the event schedule page. Three of the dates will be for ACP Brevets…so what does that mean? If you complete one of the ACP events (200K or more) and are a current RUSA member you can order a special medal from ACP. See the RUSA website for more info. Another reason to host ACP events is to attract other RANDO riders from other parts of the state to attend our events as ACP events are credited to some of the bigger awards versus the standard RUSA events.
I’m still looking for someone to help me out, this is a volunteer “position” and I need some help in planning and logistics. Please drop me an email at email@example.com if you want to help. Thanks!
