Well 2014 is over for RGV Randos. It was my first year as the RBA for South Texas.
We had three events in 2014 and are currently scheduled for three events in 2015.
Our most recent event on November 15, 2014 had 8 riders show up. The day started very cold, wet and windy….yuck! The riders were all probably wondering what are we doing here! As it turned out it dried up some, the wind died down and the day was generally nice. No major SE winds on the route back for once.
All 5 riders finished the 200K, with 4 completing their first 200K. Congrats to Tony, Lisa, Veronica and John on their first 200K and of course Bob who did another 200K! Results have been posted via RUSA and on this website.
Check out the rider gallery pictures also:
Marcus, Ted and Rodney attempted the 300K but decided during their ride to cut it to around a 250K or around 150 miles. Maybe next time, but 150 miles is still great! I wanted to ride but was nursing a leg injury so next time for me, I still need my first 300K.
As a reminder our 2015 rides dates have been approved by RUSA as follows:
2015/01/24 RUSAB 200 and 300
2015/03/28 RUSAB 200 and 300
2015/11/14 RUSAB 200 and 300
Some other news. I met with City of Weslaco officials recently and have permission to start/end Brevets in Weslaco. Good news! So I will be designing new routes that are mid-valley. I’m also working on a route that will start/end in Harlingen at the soccer fields on Hwy 106. More details to follow. Goal will be to have different routes for some of the events in 2015.

See you out there on the bike paths, be safe and keep riding. To all the riders who particpated this year, thanks for being there and keeping the sport of Randonneuring alive in South Texas.
Hope to see everyone at the Pico De Gallo 100 ride on December 20, 2014!
