The last couple of weeks have been busy for me. I just finished my first “self-supported” tour on my new Surly on Sunday. Almost 500 miles starting in El Paso, TX. More about that later 🙂
Plans are to start ride promptly at 7:30 AM…so that is wheels down time! We’ve had some fog lately so we may delay the start for safety reasons. Be there early so I can explain rules and answer any questions, get forms signed, etc. I should be at the Port Isabel lighthouse no later than 6:45 AM. I do plan to ride myself so if you are late you might miss the ride. Can always contact me via cell phone. (956-642-6108)
There is no entry fee or official SAG support. By definition a Rando is a self supported ride, you must have someone you can contact in case you get stranded although I will do everything I can to make sure you get a ride if needed. Please review the links below. I highly encourage you to register on the RUSA website for a modest yearly fee of $20 so you can get your ride recognized and support RUSA.
As a reminder if you are going to ride in one of the events on March 22nd I would really appreciate it if you would complete the registration form and send it in via email. Just an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with which event (200K or 300K) you plan to do would be greatly appreciated.
I put updated cue cards on the website on March 12th and are available via the event schedule page. Please review these links for RUSA rules and Brevet info. If you have any questions please ask via email or via a comment to this post. If I don’t have the answer I will get it for you!!
Pay particular attention to the requirements for lighting and reflective gear for those doing the 300K event. Safety is a number one priority. Requirements are listed in one of the links above. Riders will not be allowed to ride the 300K without proper lighting and reflective gear, no exceptions.
Just one last reminder if this event does not go well (my responsibility as a volunteer) the sport of Randoneeuring may not be supported in the RGV again.
So let’s make this a success! I plan to ride the event myself, see you there.
